Chief Simon Okeyo Mbwayo, who is in charge of the Raganga sub-location, has been chief for 12 years, has attended 10 celebrations and has also taken his own daughter to the celebrations
“Let’s fight FGM together! I attended a seminar where I was told that 77% of Kisii people practise FGM. FGM has been and remains a problem in Kisii. FGM is linked to … (HIV, poorer women’s health, etc.). We want the figure to be 0%; we want our girls to be protected. FGM will be eradicated in the next generation.”

“Girls may be able to say ‘no’, but they cannot make the decision themselves. It is important to educate parents; they are the ones who can make the decision to protect their daughters. This decision stems from new knowledge and comes from the heart. It is a lasting one.”
