A little cookbook featuring Kenyan recipes (€12)
The author is Elzbieta Wasserfurth. As a member of Lebkomm and Partners of Change, she has visited Kenya on several occasions, staying with rural women, helping them with farm work – and watching them cook.
Over the years, she has recorded the recipes of the women of Yala and Kisii. The result is this 32-page cookbook. The book is available on a donation basis via Partners of Change for €12 (of which €2 covers postage). Please include your address when making the bank transfer so that the booklet reaches you. Thank you!

This little book is more than just a cookbook – it is a warm introduction to the daily lives of women in Kenya. “Chiemo maber” (meaning “Enjoy your meal”) invites readers to discover the flavours and traditions of the African continent. Accompanied by authentic photographs, the book gives the impression of being immersed directly in the vibrant landscapes of Kenya.

These simple yet delicious recipes reflect the creativity of the women who cook without measuring jugs. They make use of what their gardens have to offer and conjure up dishes such as ugali and mandasi. The book also offers an insight into the challenges and joys faced by Kenyan mothers who lovingly care for their families. ‘Chiemo maber’ appeals not only to the palate, but also to the heart.
